SEATTLE (AP) — Dominic Canzone singled home the winning run in the 11th inning and the Seattle Mariners completed a three-game sweep of the Chicago White Sox with a 4-3 victory Thursday. Randy Arozarena hit an early two-run homer for the Mariners, who swept a series for the first time since July 11-13. They moved within 1 1/2 games of first-place Houston in the AL West. Michael A. Taylor and Brooks Baldwin each had a solo homer for the White Sox, who lead the majors with 37 home runs since the All-Star break. Both teams scored once in the 10th. Lenyn Sosa raced home on a wild pitch from Seattle reliever Eduard Bazardo with the bases loaded to give Chicago a 3-2 lead. But in the bottom half, a throwing error by third baseman Josh Rojas on Miles Mastrobuoni's sacrifice bunt allowed Arozarena to score the tying run. Jackson Kowar (2-0) worked a perfect inning for the win. Arozarena matched his career high with his 23rd home run, connecting in the third off starter Shane Smith. Taylor went deep in the fifth and Baldwin homered in the seventh. Seattle starter Logan Gilbert tossed five innings, permitting one run and two hits while striking out six. Smith pitched five innings for Chicago and equaled his career best with eight strikeouts. Luis Robert Jr. went 3 for 4 with a double and reached base four times for the White Sox. Key moment Chicago intentionally walked Mitch Garver — who struck out three times in the game — to set up a lefty-lefty matchup against Canzone with one out in the 11th. Canzone hit a slider from Brandon Eisert (2-3) between first and second to score automatic runner Eugenio Suárez from second base. It was the first walk-off hit of Canzone's career. Key stat Robert swiped second in the eighth, becoming the fourth player in franchise history with 100 home runs and 100 stolen bases. Up next Chicago returns home for a three-game series against Cleveland, with right-hander Aaron Civale (3-6, 3.99 ERA) on the mound Friday night. Seattle welcomes Tampa Bay for a weekend series, with Luis Castillo (8-6, 3.22) scheduled to start Friday for the Mariners. ___ AP MLB:https://apnews.com/hub/MLB

Chargers LT Rashawn Slater out for season after suffering leg injury in practiceNew Foto - Chargers LT Rashawn Slater out for season after suffering leg injury in practice

TheLos Angeles Chargershave lost their most important offensive lineman for the season. Offensive tackleRashawn Slatersuffered a leg injury and had to be carted off of the field during theChargers' training camp practice on Aug. 7. The team confirmed it was a torn patellar tendon and Slater will be out for the season. Slater was taking part in a version of an 11-on-11 drill and dropped into his pass protection set when another player fell on his left leg. Trainers checked on him for a couple of minutes after he went down before eventually calling for the cart. Slater was unable to put any weight on his left leg as trainers helped him off of the cart and into the Chargers' team facility, reports said. RASHAWN SLATER CONTRACT:Los Angeles Chargers OT signs record contract extension Slater became the highest-paid offensive lineman in the NFL by average annual value whenhe signed a four-year, $114 million contract extensionto stay in Los Angeles. The former first-round pick out of Northwestern had just come off of his second Pro Bowl season and was about to enter the fifth-year option season of his rookie contract in 2025. Previously, Slater's worst injury a ruptured biceps tendon he suffered in Week 3 of the 2022 season, which ended his year early. Outside of those 14 missed games, Slater has only sat out three others. The left tackle played all but two games for the Chargers last season, missing a Week 4 game with a pectoral strain then the team's Week 18 finale when he felt knee discomfort during pregame stretches. His lone other missed start unrelated to the ruptured tendon was due to an illness during his rookie season in 2021. The Chargers have three backup tackles on their unofficial depth chart behind Slater: one swing tackle, a left tackle and a right tackle. Here's how the offensive tackle spot looks on Los Angeles's unofficial depth chart before they face the New Orleans Saints in a Sunday afternoon preseason game (asterisks [*] denote starters): LT Rashawn Slater* RT Joe Alt* LT/RT Trey Pipkins III LT Ryan Nelson RT Corey Stewart According to the Chargers' website, the backups on the unofficial depth chart are listed in the order they appear. That means Pipkins is the likely starter at left tackle in place of Slater if necessary. This article originally appeared on USA TODAY:Rashawn Slater injury: Chargers LT out for season

Trump administration asks high court to lift restrictions on Southern California immigration stopsNew Foto - Trump administration asks high court to lift restrictions on Southern California immigration stops

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration on Thursday asked theSupreme Courtto halt acourt order restricting immigration stopsthat swept up at least two U.S. citizens in Southern California. The emergency petition comes after an appeals court refused to lift a temporary restraining order barring authorities from stopping or arresting people based solely on factors like what language speak or where they work. The move is the latest in a string of emergency appeals from the Trump administration to the high court, which has recentlysided with the Republican presidentin a number of high-profile cases. The Justice Department argued thatfederal agentsare allowed to consider those factors when ramping up enforcement ofimmigrationlaws in Los Angeles, an area it considers a "top enforcement priority." Trump officials asked the justices to immediately halt the order from U.S. District Judge Maame E. Frimpong in Los Angeles. She found a "mountain of evidence" that enforcement tactics were violating the U.S. Constitution in what the plaintiffs called "roving patrols." Her ruling came in a lawsuit filed by immigrant advocacy groups who accused PresidentDonald Trump's administration of systematically targeting brown-skinned people in Southern California during the administration's crackdown on illegal immigration. Trump's Solicitor General D. John Sauer asked the justices to immediately halt Frimpong's order, arguing that it puts a "straitjacket" on agents in an area with a large number of people in the U.S. illegally. "No one thinks that speaking Spanish or working in construction always creates reasonable suspicion ... But in many situations, such factors—alone or in combination—can heighten the likelihood that someone is unlawfully present in the United States," Sauer wrote. He also argued that the order "flouted" a recent Supreme Court decision restricting judges from handing down universal injunctions, since it restricted stops in the entire region rather than only the plaintiffs. Department of Homeland Security attorneys have said immigration officers target people based on illegal presence in the U.S., not skin color, race or ethnicity. The order from Frimpong, who was nominated by Democratic President Joe Biden, bars authorities from using factors like apparent race or ethnicity, speaking Spanish or English with an accent, presence at a location such as a tow yard or car wash, or someone's occupation as the only basis for reasonable suspicion for detention. The Los Angeles region has been a battleground for the Trump administration after its aggressive immigration strategy spurred protests and thedeployment of the National Guardsand Marines for several weeks. Plaintiffs on the lawsuit before Frimpong included three detained immigrants and two U.S. citizens. One was Los Angeles resident Brian Gavidia, who was shown in a June 13 video being seized by federal agents as he yelled, "I was born here in the states, East LA bro!" He was released about 20 minutes later after showing agents his identification, as was another citizen stopped at a car wash, according to the lawsuit.

WASHINGTON −President Donald Trumpsaid he's willing to meet withVladimir Putin, regardless of whether the Russian leader agrees to sit down with Ukraine's president to discuss an end to the war. "No, he doesn't. No, no. They would like to meet with me, and I'll do whatever I can to stop the killing," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. The potential summit next week between Trump and Putin had hit a snag overUkrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy'spossible inclusion, prior to Trump's Aug. 7 declaration. More:Top Trump aide accuses India of financing Russia's war in Ukraine An aide to Putin said the Russian government agreed to and waspreparing for a bilateral meetingwith Trump. But a White House official stipulated that Putin must first agree to meet with Zelenskyy before a Trump sit-down can take place. Putin told reporterson Aug. 7 that he had "no objection" to meeting with Zelenskyy "in principle." Still, "certain conditions must be in place first. Unfortunately, we are still far from that point," the Russian leader said. Zelenskyydeclared on social media: "Ukraine is not afraid of meetings and expects the same brave approach from the Russian side." More:Russia claims capture of Chasiv Yar in eastern Ukraine after 16-month battle The back-and-forth came after Trump special envoy Steve Witkoff met with Russian leaders in Moscow ahead of an Aug. 8 deadline for Putin's government tostrike a peace deal with Ukraineor be hit with stiffer sanctions from the United States. Both nations described the conversations as constructive, though no immediate progress toward a peace deal appeared to be made. An initial round of economic punishments in the form ofhigher tariffs on India,a major purchaser of Russian oil, were announced this week, and U.S. officials have said more sanctions are on their way. Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Aug. 7 that it would be up to Putin. "We're going to see what he has to say. It's going to be up to him. Very disappointed," Trump said of the sanctions deadline. Trump said onan Aug. 6 callwith European leaders that he intended to meet both Putin and Zelenskyy, thethe New York Timesreported. Zelenskyy said he was also on the phone. NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte and Vice PresidentJD Vancealso participated in the call, sources familiar with the conversation said. Trump told reporters during an Aug. 6 event with Apple's CEO at the White House that "there's a very good prospect" Putin and Zelenskyy would agree to a summit. "I've been disappointed before with this one,"Trump said. The last U.S. leader to meet with Putin wasformer President Joe Bidenduring a 2021 summit in Switzerland. Trump and Putin met in Finland in 2018. Both meetings took place before Russia war launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. No location has been set for the potential upcoming summit between Putin and Trump. Putin said on Aug. 7 that the United Arab Emirates had offered to host. Turkey hosted aprevious round of negotiationsbetween Russia and Ukraine that Zelenskyy challenged Putin to show up to in person in May. Trump said he'd come, too,if he thoughtit would help. None of the leaders ended up attending. The Kremlin said on Aug. 7 that while Witkoff mentioned a trilateral summit with Trump and Zelenskyy, "there was no specific discussion on this topic." "Our suggestion primarily focuses on preparing for a bilateral meeting withDonald Trump. It is our belief that ensuring this meeting is a success and yields tangible results is what matters most," Putin aide Yury Ushako said. The State Department referred questions to the White House. Secretary of StateMarco Rubiosaidin a Fox Business interviewon Aug. 6 that if talks progressed, an opportunity would hopefully "present itself very soon" for Trump to meet Putin and Zelenskyy "in the near future." "There's still many impediments to overcome," he said after Witkoff's Moscow meetings. A dramatic offseason storyline involving one of the best defenders in the NFL continues in southern California atDallas Cowboystraining camp. Micah ParsonsandCowboysowner and general manager Jerry Jones were not seen at Cowboys camp in Oxnard, California today, perreports. It was later revealed thatParsons is dealing with back tightness. He received treatment instead of staying on the practice field, as he's done for most of training camp. For the first time in training camp, Micah Parsons was not on the practice field Thursday with multiple sources indicating the Pro Bowl pass rusher was dealing with back tightness. He received treatment during practice. — Todd Archer (@toddarcher)August 7, 2025 It's been less than a week since Parsonsrequested a tradefrom Dallas in a social media post. The three-time All-Pro is entering the final year of his rookie contract which is fully guaranteed. Despite the trade request, Parsons has been holding in at the team's training camp for much of the offseason. That means he's been at mandatory activities and standing on the sidelines during practice while waiting a new deal. The two sides – Parsons and the Cowboys, led by Jones – have yet to reach a deal. A conversation Parsons and Jones had earlier this offseason about an extension seems to be a sticking point. Parsons thought it was just a conversation and that his agent, David Mulugheta, would be involved in official dealings. Jones and the Cowboys believed they'd reached a deal in that conversation. "There is no question that in the case of a player contract, you have to have it in writing," Jones said. "We have a contract in writing yet we're still talking about re-negotiating. So, so much for that." Jones said after Parsons' request thathe is not confident the star pass rusher will playon opening night of the 2025 season when the Cowboys face off against the Philadelphia Eagles. Malik Beasley's return to theDetroit Pistonsnext season — or any other NBA team — is uncertain amida federal investigation into his alleged involvementwith gambling and prop bets. However, if he was to re-sign with the Pistons, he'll apparently have to find a different place to live in Detroit. An eviction order was filed in the 36th District Court two months after the guard was sued for failing to pay rent on the downtown Detroit residence. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] The NBA guard has been sued twice for not paying a total of $21,500 in rent for his apartment at The Stott, the high-rise building owned by Bedrock Detroit, which is part of Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert's business portfolio. Beasley did not respond to the second of the lawsuits accusing him of failing to pay $7,355, resulting in a default judgment being filed against him before 36th District Judge Andrew Bradley-Baskin. The nine-year veteran is currently a free agent and was reportedly set to agree ona three-year, $42 million contractwith the Pistons before news of the federal gambling investigation was reported. Beasley's attorney, Steve Haney, pointed out to reporters that his clienthas not been chargedwith any crime. Following reports of the gambling probe, Beasley was alsosued by Hazan Sports Management Groupfor breach of contract, alleging he owes the agency $650,000 that was unpaid when he terminated his contract. Despite the gambling investigation and lawsuits, Beasley insists he will play in the NBA next season, whether with the Pistons or other teams. During the past month, he has posted videos on social media of him training in Miami (in addition to going to nightclubs and traveling in Europe). On Wednesday, he posteda story to Snapchatsaying, "We gotta be prepared to come back to the Pistons, or, like I said, there's some other teams interested as well." Last season, Beasley averaged 16.3 points and shot 42% on 366 3-point attempts. He was Detroit's third-leading scorer and appeared in all 82 games as the Pistons returned to the playoffs afterfinishing with the NBA's worst recordduring the previous season. That performance earned him a second-place finish in NBA Sixth Man of the Year voting.

A much-anticipated meeting between Attorney General Pam Bondi, FBI Director Kash Patel, Vice President JD Vance and others was moved from Vance's residence to the White House Wednesday night after intense media coverage, a source familiar with the logistics told CNN. They discussed a number of topics, including the Jeffrey Epstein case and potential next steps, the source said. The meeting wasoriginally planned to take place at Vance's DC homeand was also supposed to include White House chief of staff Susie Wiles and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, CNN previously reported. The administration's handling of the Epstein case, as well as the need to craft a unified response, was expected to be a main focus of the dinner. Trump administration officials are weighing whether to publish an audio recording and transcript of Blanche's recent conversation with Epstein accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell, CNN previously reported. The meeting was also seen as apotential chance for Bondi and Patel— who have clashed over the Epstein case strategy, including in a contentious meeting with Wiles and Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino — to clear the air. Vance had tried to play peacemaker between Bondi, Patel and Bongino previously. Vance and his office denied on Wednesday that a meeting on Epstein was taking place.
