NEW YORK (AP) — Aaron Judge hit his 33rd home run, left fielder Cody Bellinger started a pivotal double play and the New York Yankees stopped a six-game losing streak by beating the Mets 6-4 Sunday to avoid a weekend Subway Series sweep. All-Star Max Fried (11-2) improved to 9-1 in 12 starts after Yankees losses after Judge staked him to a 5-0 lead with a two-run homer in the fifth off Brandon Waddell, part of Judge's three-RBI day. After Judge's sacrifice fly restored a two-run lead in the seventh, Juan Soto hit a sinking drive that Bellinger scooped with a shoestring catch that had 30% possibility. Bellinger made a 89.9 mph throw to first baseman Paul Goldschmidt that doubled up Francisco Lindor, who didn't slide. That was the second of three double plays in consecutive innings by a Yankees defense that has been shaky of late. Hayden Senger grounded into a double play with the bases loaded in the sixth, and Judge followed with a tumbling catch on Starling Marte's liner. Goldschmidt turned an unassisted double play in the eighth, gloving Brett Baty's hard grounder, tagging Ronny Mauricio and stepping on first base. The Yankees, who tumbled from the AL East lead by losing 16 of 22 games, had matched their longest losing streak. They stopped the Mets' four-game winning streak. Austin Wells homered in the third off Zach Pop (0-1), who made his Mets debut. Francisco Lindor hit a two-run single in the fifth off Fried (11-2). Devin Williams pitched a perfect ninth for his 12th save in 13 chances. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza was ejected by plate umpire John Bacon after a pair of called strikes on Luis Torrens starting the inning, the first that appeared to be outside and the second that seemed low. The game ended when Lindor couldn't check his swing on a strikeout with Soto on deck. Mendoza was ejected for the second time this season, both in a nine-day span. Key Moments After Lindor's hit, Fried struck out Soto and retired Pete Alonso on a deep flyout. Key Stat Judge has 11 first-pitch homers, equaling a career high. Up Next Yankees: Rookie Will Warren (5-4, 5.02 ERA) opposes visiting Seattle and RHP Logan Gilbert (2-2, 3.40) on Tuesday nught. Mets: Clay Holmes (8-4, 2.99) faces rookie Brandon Young (0-3, 7.02 ERA) at Baltimore on Tuesday. ___ AP MLB:https://apnews.com/hub/mlb

MLB has gone to great lengths to keep fans informed about the 2025 All-Star Game. First, the league unveiled the two biggest vote-getters. Those two players — New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge and Los Angeles Dodgers two-way star Shohei Ohtani — wereautomatically named starters. The league then opened things up to another round of voting, which determined therest of the starting lineuparound Judge and Ohtani. With those issues settled, there was just one thing left for the league to do: Announce the rest of the All-Star rosters, including pitchers and reserves, ahead of the July 15 event. The league unveiled the full 2025 MLB All-Star Game rosters Sunday, and a handful of players received the honor for the first time. Without further ado, here's how the American League roster will shake out July 15 in Atlanta. First-time All-Stars are italicized. Every team needs to have at least one representative, which may explain why some talented players were left off the final roster. There's still a chance for some of those snubs to make the final All-Star roster. Any player who gets injured prior to the All-Star Game will be replaced on the roster. The same thing will happen with pitchers who throw too close to the contest. If they won't be available to take part in the All-Star Game, another player will be named to the roster as a replacement.

First indirect Hamas-Israel ceasefire talks ended inconclusively, Palestinian sources sayNew Foto - First indirect Hamas-Israel ceasefire talks ended inconclusively, Palestinian sources say

By Nidal al-Mughrabi CAIRO (Reuters) -The first session of indirect Hamas-Israel ceasefire talks in Qatar ended inconclusively, two Palestinian sources familiar with the matter said early on Monday, adding that the Israeli delegation didn't have a sufficient mandate to reach an agreement with Hamas. The talks resumed on Sunday, ahead of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's third visit to the White House since U.S. President Donald Trump returned to power nearly six months ago. "After the first session of indirect negotiations in Doha, the Israeli delegation is not sufficiently authorized ... to reach an agreement with Hamas, as it has no real powers," the sources told Reuters. Netanyahu said, before his departure to Washington, that Israeli negotiators taking part in the ceasefire talks have clear instructions to achieve a ceasefire agreement under conditions that Israel has accepted. On Saturday evening, crowds gathered at a public square in Tel Aviv near the defence ministry headquarters to call for a ceasefire deal and the return of around 50 hostages still held in Gaza. The demonstrators waved Israeli flags, chanted and carried posters with photos of the hostages. The latest bloodshed in the decades-old Israeli-Palestinian conflict was triggered on October 7, 2023, when Hamas attacked southern Israel, killing around 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages, according to Israeli tallies. Around 20 of the remaining hostages are believed to be still alive. A majority of the original hostages have been freed through diplomatic negotiations, though the Israeli military has also recovered some. Gaza's health ministry says Israel's retaliatory military assault on the enclave has killed over 57,000 Palestinians. It has also caused a hunger crisis, displaced the population, mostly within Gaza, and left the territory in ruins. Trump Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent knocks Elon Musk's new political partyNew Foto - Trump Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent knocks Elon Musk's new political party

Treasury SecretaryScott BessentcriticizedElon Musk'snew political party, saying the world's wealthiest man wasn't a popular part of the Trump administration. Asked about Musk's move, Bessenttold CNN's Dana Bashthat the ideas behind the administration's Department of Government Efficiency effort, also known as DOGE, were "very popular." But "I think if you looked at the polling, Elon was not," Bessent said of the president'sformer advisorwho led the White House's effort to slash the size of the federal government. On July 5, Musk announced he would be forming a new political party amid frustration with President Donald Trump'ssweeping tax policy bill, which is expected to add at least $3.3 trillion to the federal deficit in the next ten years. "I believe that the boards of directors at his various companies wanted him to come back and run those companies, which he is better at than anyone," Bessent said of Musk's departure from the federal government. "So I imagine that those boards of directors did not like this announcement yesterday and will be encouraging him to focus on his business activities, not his political activities," he added. A Quinnipiac University pollreleased last monthfound that 30% of American voters said they have a favorable opinion of Musk. Sixty-two percent of Republicans backed the billionaire, but that was down from 78% in the university's March survey. Bessent and Musk repeatedly clashed during the billionaire's time in the administration, culminating in Bessent calling Musk a "fraud" and Musk throwing hisshoulder into Bessent's rib cagein the White House, setting off a "scrum" between the two, according tomultiple reports. Musk and Trump, too, havefeuded in recent weeks. Musk hasbeen critical of Trumpand congressional Republicans' efforts to pass the sweeping tax bill, arguing that it is reckless to saddle the country with so much additional debt. GOP leaders have contended that the bill will spur economic growth. Trumpsigned the billinto law on July 4. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO shared on X the next day that he was starting the "America Party," though the party's broader beliefs weren't immediately clear. "When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy,"Musk said on X on July 5. "Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom." This article originally appeared on USA TODAY:Elon Musk: Trump treasury secretary Scott Bessent knocks America Party

Notre Dame offensive lineman Charles Jagusah, expected to start at right guard, breaks arm in UTV accidentNew Foto - Notre Dame offensive lineman Charles Jagusah, expected to start at right guard, breaks arm in UTV accident

For the second consecutive season, Notre Dame could begin the season with a top offensive lineman injured. Sophomore Charles Jagusah suffered a fractured left humerus in a UTV accident and underwent surgery to repair the injury, the school announced Sunday. "The initial prognosis is favorable, and he will return to campus early this week for further evaluation and continued care," Notre Dame's football program saidin a statement. The accident occurred on July 5 in Wyoming. Jagusah, 6-foot-7 and 333 pounds, is expected to start at right guard for the Fighting Irish. Whether he will be ready for the start of the regular season has yet to be determined. Notre Dame begins the 2025 season on Aug. 31 at Miami (Florida). "If you put the film on when he was in the Penn State game and you watched him, you were like 'Oh, who's that dude," Rudolph said, via Irish Sports Daily. "And you don't do that a lot with offensive line. There's a lot going on for a guy to stand out that way." "When you see someone who maybe could be as good as anyone in the country or better, you kind of keep developing in that spot as well," he added. Fellow sophomore Sullivan Absher will likely play at right guard while Jagusah is sidelined. Redshirt freshman Guerby Lambert could also be in the mix, though he is recovering from shoulder surgery. True freshman Will Black has not yet practiced with the team and does not have experience at guard. Ranked asa four-star prospect by Rivals, Jagusah missed the entire 2024 season after suffering a torn right pectoral muscle in fall training camp. Notre Dame alsolost offensive lineman Ashton Craigand Billy Schrauth during the year. However, Jagusah was able to return for the final three games of the Irish's College Football Playoff run, playing on special teams versus Georgia, and as a reserve against Penn State and Ohio State.

League rebounding leader Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky and assists leader Alyssa Thomas of the Phoenix Mercury are among the 12 reserves announced Sunday for the WNBA All-Star Game. The league previously announced the 10 starters for the game on July 19 in Indianapolis. The reserves were selected by the WNBA's 13 head coaches, who each voted for three guards, five frontcourt players and four players at either position regardless of conference. Coaches were not able to vote for their own players. All-Star Game captains Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever and Napheesa Collier of the Minnesota Lynx, who finished first and second in fan voting, will draft their rosters from the remaining eight starters and 12 reserves on Tuesday. Thomas, an All-Star for the fourth straight season and sixth time overall, is in her first year with the Mercury. The forward averages 9.4 assists, 14.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Reese, an All-Star in both of her WNBA seasons, leads the league with 12.6 rebounds per game and also averages 12.4 points.
