A Minnesota state representative and her husband were shot and killed, and a state senator and his wife were shot and wounded in an "act of targeted political violence" at their homes early Saturday, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said. A manhunt is now underway for the gunman who was impersonating a police officer, authorities said. State Rep. Melissa Hortman, a Democrat, and her husband were shot and killed in what appears to be a "politically-motivated assassination," Walz said at a news conference. "She was a formidable public servant," the governor said of his friend. "She is irreplaceable." State Sen. John Hoffman, a Democrat, and his wife were both shot multiple times and underwent surgery, the governor said. "We're cautiously optimistic they will survive this assassination attempt," Walz said. The two shooting locations are a few miles away from each other in Champlin and Brooklyn Park, just north of Minneapolis. Hoffman and his wife were shot around 2 a.m. in Champlin, Superintendent of the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Drew Evans said. After Hoffman was shot, officers were heading to pro-actively check on Hortman when they encountered the suspect at Hortman's home around 3:35 a.m., Evans said. The officers found a person who was dressed as a police officer -- wearing a vest and a badge, and with a Taser and other equipment -- at the door, coming out of Hortman's house, police said. The suspect fired at the officers; gunfire was exchanged and the suspect was able to escape and flee on foot, authorities said. The suspect's vehicle -- which looked like a police vehicle, including police lights -- was in Hortman's driveway, authorities said. A list of other possible targets was retrieved from the suspect's vehicle, authorities said. Police said the list had "many lawmakers," including the victims. Security resources have been dispatched to protect those people named on the list, authorities said. The gunman attacked by knocking on the doors and asking the victims to come out, police said. The gunman did say something to the victims, police said, but authorities did not reveal what that was. President Donald Trump has been briefed on the shooting and said "such horrific violence will not be tolerated," White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt posted on social media, attributing the statement to the president. Attorney General Pam Bondi said she's "closely monitoring developments in Minnesota after what appears to be a targeted attack against state lawmakers." "This horrific violence will not be tolerated and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," she said in a statement. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., called the victims close friends and said they're "devoted to their families and public service." "This is a stunning act of violence. I'm thankful for all the law enforcement who are responding in real time," she said. "My prayers are with the Hortman and Hoffman families." Hortman was the former Speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives. Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin, formerly the Minnesota Democratic party chair, said he's friends with both Hoffman and Hortman. Martin wrote on social media that he's "completely heartbroken" and "praying hard for both families." FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said the agency is "fully engaged on the ground in Minnesota." With the manhunt ongoing, police are urging community members to be cautious. Brooklyn Park is under a shelter in place order, officials said. Police warned, if an officer comes to your door, call 911 to confirm that the officer is supposed to be there. "Police are asking that no one open their door to a lone police officer," the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office said. "Licensed officers are working in pairs." This is a developing story. Marlins secure multiyear deal to again host Caribbean Series, AP source saysNew Foto - Marlins secure multiyear deal to again host Caribbean Series, AP source says

MIAMI (AP) — The Caribbean Series will return to the Miami Marlins' loanDepot park after the team reached a multiyear agreement with the Caribbean Professional Baseball Confederation, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press. The deal will allow the Marlins, who hosted the Caribbean Series in 2024, to host three more editions of the winter league champions tournament beginning in 2028, the person said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the team has not made a formal announcement. ESPN first reported the news. The Marlins had already secured the 2028 edition of the tournament after bringing record numbers to Miami in 2024 — the first time the Caribbean Series was held at a major league ballpark. The future years are not yet set. A crowd of 36,677 watched Venezuela beat the Dominican Republic in the championship at loanDepot park — the largest crowd ever for a Caribbean Series game and a higher attendance than the 2023 World Baseball Classic championship game (36,098) between the United States and Shohei Ohtani's Japan club held at the same venue. Before returning to Miami, the Caribbean Series will be held in Caracas, Venezuela, in 2026 and Hermosillo, Mexico, in 2027. ___ AP MLB:https://apnews.com/MLB

3-time Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer works his way back to rotation with Triple-A rehab startNew Foto - 3-time Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer works his way back to rotation with Triple-A rehab start

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Three-time Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer topped out at 94 mph and threw 56 pitches on Friday night in his first Triple-A rehab outing since the Toronto right-hander suffered inflammation in his right thumb. Scherzer, 40, signed aone-year, $15.5 million dealwith the Blue Jays in February. Scherzerleft his debut startwith the team against Baltimore on March 29 after three innings because of soreness in his right lat muscle. The next day,Toronto put Scherzer on the injured listbecause of inflammation in his thumb. Scherzer gave up two runs, struck out four and walked none over 4 1/3 innings in an anticipated start for Triple-A Buffalo against Columbus. He waved in appreciation to a crowd that gave him a big ovation as he walked off the field. "Got my work in," Scherzer told reporters in Buffalo. "You get back out there and be in a real game. It's nice to face somebody else and be in a real game." Scherzer did allow a 425-foot home run to one of the top 100 prospects in minor league baseball, Columbus left fielder C.J. Kayfus. "It'll be the most watched Triple-A game for a while," Blue Jays manager John Schneider said. "Or most uploaded Triple-A game." Schneider said ahead of Toronto's game Friday night in Philadelphia that the box score didn't matter to him. He wanted to make sure Scherzer came out of the game healthy. "I want to see how Max feels tomorrow," Schneider said. "I could care less about the line score. I want to see 60-65 pitches. I want to see the fastball velo is good and he's coming out healthy." Scherzer has had two cortisone injections this season to relieve inflammation in his thumb. He was transferred to the 60-day injured list last month, but became eligible to return May 29. Scherzer won World Series titles with Washington in 2019 and Texas in 2023. He won his first Cy Young Award after going 21-3 with a 2.90 ERA in 32 starts for Detroit in 2013. The eight-time All-Star earned consecutive NL Cy Young Awards with Washington in 2016 and 2017. "I'm not celebrating anything until I'm actually back in the big leagues and big league games and recovering in big league games," Scherzer said. "The thumb issue is a serious issue. I'm still not out of the woods." Schneider said Scherzer would likely need one more rehab start before he can join the Blue Jays' rotation. The Blue Jays are in second place behind the Yankees in the AL East. "The plan right now is to meet us here and probably throw a bullpen and then go back and do another one," Schneider said. ___ AP MLB:https://apnews.com/hub/mlb

Trump made millions on guitars, bibles and watches with his name on them, disclosure revealsNew Foto - Trump made millions on guitars, bibles and watches with his name on them, disclosure reveals

President Donald Trump continues to enjoy income streams from scores of luxury properties and business ventures, many of which are worth tens of millions of dollars, according to a financial disclosure form filed late Friday. Released by the Office of Government Ethics, Trump's 2025 financial disclosure spans 234 pages in all, including 145 pages of stock and bond investments, and is dated Friday with Trump's signature. One of the largest sources of income on the form is the $57,355,532 he received from his ownership stake in World Liberty Financial, the cryptocurrency platform launched last year. The form shows that World Liberty's sales of digital tokens have been highly lucrative for Trump and his family. Trump's three sons, Donald Jr., Eric, and Barron, arelisted on the company's website as co-founders of the firm. Separately,Trump's meme coin, known on crypto markets simply as $TRUMP,was not released until Januaryand is therefore not subject to the disclosure requirements for this form, which covered the calendar year 2024. It was a lucrative year for Trump when it came to royalty payments for the various goods that are sold featuring his name and likeness. Among the royalty payments: Save America (coffee table book) — $3,000,000 Trump Sneakers and Fragrances — $2,500,000 Trump Watches — $2,800,000 The Greenwood Bible — $1,306,035 "45" Guitar — $1,055,100 NFT licensing and royalties — $1,157,490 The filing also includes a listing of liabilities, including at least $15,000 on an American Express credit card and payments due to E. Jean Carroll, the woman who successfullysued Trump over sexual abuse and defamation, though the president isstill seeking to appeal the decision. The rest of the document contains dozens of pages of lengthy footnotes about the president's various assets. The form was filed to comply with federal requirements for Executive Branch office holders. By comparison, the form that former President Joe Biden filed in 2024was 11 pagesand consisted largely of conventional sources of income like bank and retirement accounts, whileKamala Harris's was 15 pages. Many of Trump's key assets are held in a revocable trust overseen by Donald Trump Jr., his eldest son. This includes more than 100,000 shares of Trump Media and Technology Group, the social media company that went public in 2024. Trump is the largest shareholder, and his nearly 53% is worthbillions of dollars. Those holdings were still disclosed in the form.

Minnesota's election safeguards stopped a voter fraud scheme in its tracks, secretary of state saysNew Foto - Minnesota's election safeguards stopped a voter fraud scheme in its tracks, secretary of state says

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Two people have been charged with conspiracy to commit voter registration fraud in a case that shows Minnesota's election safeguards work and prevented anyone from voting illegally, Secretary of State Steve Simon said Friday. The charges announced by the U.S. Attorney's Office allege that Ronnie Williams and Lorraine Lee Combs generated fictitious names and other data they used to fill out Minnesota voter registration forms in 2021 and 2022. The charging documents, filed in federal court on Tuesday, say Williams provided the completed forms to an entity that sought to register voters in Minnesota that is identified only as "Foundation 1," which paid him, and that he then split the proceeds with Combs. The documents also indicate that others were involved in the alleged conspiracy, serving as intermediaries between Williams and "Foundation 1," which would submit the false registration forms to election offices across the state "through its agents," but charges against them have not been announced. Williams and Combs were longtime romantic partners, according to the documents, which don't say how much they were paid. The charges are the result of a two-year investigation by the FBI and the Secretary of State's Office and are punishable by up to five years in prison. "The extensive checks in Minnesota's voter registration process ensured that the fraudulent applications were immediately flagged, and no ineligible votes were cast," Simon said in a statement. While voter fraud does happen occasionally, the country's processesprovide many safeguardsthat generally keep it detectable and rare. When it happens, it tends to get caught and prosecuted. "Election fraud strikes at the heart of our democracy," Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph Thompson said in a separate statement. "Thankfully, the FBI stopped this fraud in its tracks, before anyone successfully cast a fraudulent ballot. But we will stay vigilant." Court documents suggest that the two defendants plan to plead guilty. They were charged by complaints instead of grand jury indictments, which are normally needed to take a case to trial in federal court. And the case dockets show that Williams has a plea agreement hearing set for July 8, while Combs has a change of plea hearing on June 24. Attorneys for Williams and Combs declined to comment on the charges. The announcement from prosecutors said the two are Nevada residents who formerly lived in Minnesota. Neither has a listed phone number in either state. But Combstold the Minnesota Star Tribunethat she filled out roughly 500 forms as part of the operation and turned them over to Williams. She told the newspaper that she didn't know the name of the foundation, and she didn't know how many applications Williams completed illegally. Simon's office said local officials used verification tools that are built into the state's voter registration system to identify inconsistencies on the forms, then immediately reported them to law enforcement and his office. The office then worked with every county election office to confirm that all fraudulent registration attempts would be detected and confirm that no ballots were wrongly requested or cast. "Our message to would-be fraudsters is clear: If you try to trick or scheme your way into registering voters in Minnesota, you will be caught and prosecuted," Simon said.

Hartenstein back in starting lineup for Thunder for Game 4 of the NBA Finals vs. IndianaNew Foto - Hartenstein back in starting lineup for Thunder for Game 4 of the NBA Finals vs. Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Oklahoma City went back to the lineup it used throughout the first three rounds of the playoffs on Friday night, returning Isaiah Hartenstein to the starting five for Game 4 of the NBA Finals against Indiana. Hartenstein started alongside MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams, Lu Dort and Chet Holmgren. The Hartenstein-Holmgren pairing gives the Thunder a pair of 7-footers in the opening five, and Oklahoma City was 12-4 in the Western Conference playoffs when starting that lineup. That fivesome was also 9-4 when starting games together in the regular season. The Thunder had Hartenstein coming off the bench for the first three games of the finals, with Cason Wallace starting in his place. Indiana took two of those three games. "We have a lot of optionality that we draw on, almost nightly," Thunder coach Mark Daigneault said earlier in the finals. "If you followed our team throughout the season, I think you know that flexibility and adaptability is the only constant. We're never staying the same. I know we started the same lineup in the playoffs, but our rotation night to night in these series has been incredibly variant. We think that's a strength of our team." The change comes after Indiana scored 50 points in the paint in Game 3, after managing only 34 in each of the first two games of the series. ___ AP NBA:https://apnews.com/nba
