Bowman Gray Stadium race ends in absolute chaos, with one driver jump-kicking a competitor's carNew Foto - Bowman Gray Stadium race ends in absolute chaos, with one driver jump-kicking a competitor's car

North Carolina's Bowman Gray Stadium has seen some of the weirdest and wildest races in the world of auto racing, but Saturday might have been a new peak (or low). Driving the No. 8 car in a 20-lap street stock race, Kyler Staley was a step ahead of Brad Lewis in the final stretch and seemingly about to win, when his father decided to help out. Sitting far enough behind the leaders to be just ahead of the finish line, Zack Staley slowed down in front of Lewis to try to swing the result. It didn't work out. It was actually Kyler who slowed down more, while Lewis surged between father and son for the win. And then it got stupid. 🚨 All hell just broke loose at@BGSRacingat the finish for the Street Stocks!#BowmanGraypic.twitter.com/VwXXFSaNR1 — FloRacing (@FloRacing)June 29, 2025 Lewis' daughter Emilee had been trailing behind the leaders in the final lap and apparently didn't appreciate Zack Staley's attempt to sabotage her father, as she drove straight into him and spun him out after crossing the finish line. Both of the Staleys were visibly livid. When Brad Lewis was given the checkered flag as the winner, Kyler ran out of his car to confront him, but Lewis just drove away. Kyler got into it with Emilee Lewis, and then Zack ran across the infield and jump-kicked the windshield of her car in a scene straight out of "Talladega Nights." After the kick, Zack started ripping up the hood until the police intervened. As he walked away, he issued a middle-finger salute behind him. Then his son climbed on his own car and did the same. The official results were Brad Lewis first, Kyler Staley second, Emilee Lewis third and Zack Staley 14th in a 21-car race. It is unclear what consequences await the drivers involved.

Iran's judiciary says at least 71 killed in Israel's attack on Tehran's notorious Evin prisonNew Foto - Iran's judiciary says at least 71 killed in Israel's attack on Tehran's notorious Evin prison

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — At least 71 people were killed in Israel's attack on Tehran's Evin prison, a notorious facility where many political prisoners and dissidents have been held, Iran's judiciary said on Sunday. Judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangir posted on the office's official Mizan news agency website that those killed on Monday included staff, soldiers, prisoners and members of visiting families. It was not possible to independently verify the claim. The June 23 attack, the day before the ceasefire between Israel and Iran took hold, hit several prison buildings and prompted concerns from rights groups about the safety of the inmates. Jahangir did not break down the casualty figures but said the attack had hit the prison's infirmary, engineering building, judicial affairs and visitation hall, where visiting family members were killed and injured. On the day of the attack, New York-based Center for Human Rights in Iran criticized Israel for striking the prison, seen as a symbol of the Iranian regime's repression of any opposition, saying it violated the principle of distinction between civilian and military targets. At the same time, the group said Iran was legally obligated to protect the prisoners held in Evin, and slammed authorities in Tehran for their "failure to evacuate, provide medical assistance or inform families" following the attack. Jahangir said some of those injured were treated on site, while others were sent to hospitals. Iran had not previously announced any death figures, though on Saturday confirmed that top prosecutor Ali Ghanaatkar — whose prosecution of dissidents, including Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi, led to widespread criticism by human rights groups — had been killed in the attack. He was one of about 60 people for whom a massive public funeral procession was held on Saturday in Tehran, and he was to be buried at a shrine in Qom on Sunday. Israel attacked Iran on June 13 in a bid to destroy the country's nuclear program. Over 12 days before a ceasefire was declared, Israel claimed it killed around 30 Iranian commanders and 11 nuclear scientists, while hitting eightnuclear-related facilitiesand more than 720 military infrastructure sites. More than 1,000 people were killed, including at least 417 civilians, according to the Washington-based Human Rights Activists group. In retaliation, Iran fired more than 550 ballistic missiles at Israel, most of which were intercepted, but those that got through caused damage in many areas and killed 28 people.

Trump calls for deal on Gaza war as signs of progress emergeNew Foto - Trump calls for deal on Gaza war as signs of progress emerge

TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — U.S. PresidentDonald Trumpon Sunday pleaded for progress in ceasefire talks in the war in Gaza, calling for a deal that would halt the fighting in the 20-monthlong conflict as the sides appeared to be inching closer to an agreement. An Israeli official said plans were being made for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to travel to Washington, D.C., in the coming weeks, a sign there may be movement on a new deal. The official declined to discuss the focus of the visit and spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss plans that had not yet been finalized. "MAKE THE DEAL IN GAZA. GET THE HOSTAGES BACK!!!" Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social early Sunday between posts abouta Senate voteon his tax and spending cuts bill. Trump raised expectations Friday for a deal, saying there could be a ceasefire agreement within the next week. Taking questions from reporters, he said, "We're working on Gaza and trying to get it taken care of." Trump has repeatedly called for Israel and Hamas to end the war in Gaza. Despite an eight-week ceasefire reached just as Trump was taking office earlier this year, attempts since then to bring the sides toward a new agreement have failed. A top adviser to Netanyahu, Israeli Minister for Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer, was set to travel to Washington this week for talks on a ceasefire. Trump post slams Netanyahu corruption trial The Gaza message wasn't the only Middle East-related post by Trump. On Saturday evening, he doubled down on his criticism of the legal proceedings against Netanyahu, who ison trial for alleged corruption, calling it "a POLITICAL WITCH HUNT, very similar to the Witch Hunt that I was forced to endure." In the post on Truth Social, he said the trial interfered with talks on a Gaza ceasefire. "(Netanyahu) is right now in the process of negotiating a Deal with Hamas, which will include getting the Hostages back. How is it possible that the Prime Minister of Israel can be forced to sit in a Courtroom all day long, over NOTHING," Trump wrote. The post echoed similar remarks Trump made last week when he called for the trial to be cancelled. It was a dramatic interference by an international ally in the domestic affairs of a sovereign state. And itunnerved many in Israel, despite Trump's popularity in the country. Israeli military orders new evacuations in northern Gaza The Israeli military on Sunday ordered a mass evacuation of Palestinians in large swaths of northern Gaza, an early target of the war that has been severely damaged by multiple rounds of fighting. Col. Avichay Adraee, a military spokesperson, posted the order on social media. It includes multiple neighborhoods in eastern and northern Gaza City, as well as Jabaliya refugee camp. The military will expand its escalating attacks to the city's northern section, calling for people to move southward to the Muwasi area in southern Gaza, Adraee said. After being all but emptied earlier in the war, hundreds of thousands of people are in northern Gaza following their return during a ceasefire earlier this year. An Israeli military offensive currently underway aims to move Palestinians to southern Gaza so forces can more freely operate to combat militants. Rights groups say their movement would amount to forcible transfer. A sticking point over how the war ends Thewar in Gazabegan with Oct. 7, 2023, attacks by Hamas in which militants killed 1,200 people and took roughly 250 hostage, about 50 of whom remain captive with less than half believed to be alive. Israel's retaliatory response has killed more than 56,000 people, according to local health authorities, who do not distinguish between militants and civilians in their count but say more than half of the dead are women and children. The war has set off a humanitarian catastrophe, displaced most of Gaza's population, often multiple times, and obliterated much of the territory's urban landscape. Talks between Israel and Hamas have repeatedly faltered over one major sticking point, whether the war should end as part of any ceasefire agreement. Hamas says it is willing to free all the hostages in exchange for a full withdrawal of Israeli troops and an end to the war. Israel rejects that offer, saying it will agree to end the war if Hamas disarms and goes into exile, something the group refuses. ___ Magdy reported from Cairo and Shurafa from Deir al-Balah, Gaza Strip. ___ Follow the AP's war coverage athttps://apnews.com/hub/israel-hamas-war.

Ilia Topuria makes statement with quick stoppage of Charles OliveiraNew Foto - Ilia Topuria makes statement with quick stoppage of Charles Oliveira

LAS VEGAS -- Ilia Topuria made good on his promise to finish Charles Oliveira in the first two or three rounds, knocking the future UFC hall-of-famer with an explosive combo 2:27 into the fight on Saturday night for the vacant UFC lightweight crown. Topuria's win makes him the first undefeated two-division champion in UFC history and the 10th overall. The 28-year-old, who fights under Georgian and Spanish nationalities, ranks third on UFC's pound-for-pound list. The UFC 317 pay-per-view event ended with a face-off between Topuria (17-0) and star Paddy Pimblett of England, teasing what will almost certainly become the 28-year-old Topuria's first lightweight title defense in the UFC. The 35-year-old Oliveira, a heavy underdog from Brazil, fell to 35-11-0. The co-main event saw flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja put forth a dominant effort against challenger Kai-Kara France, defeating the New Zealander with a vicious rear-naked choke at 1:55 of the third round. The win was the fourth consecutive title defense for Pantoja (30-5-0). He also surpassed Demetrious Johnson as the all-time wins (14) and finishes (eight) leader in UFC lightweight history. 12th-ranked lightweight Joshua Van and top contender Brandon Royval engaged in a captivating stand-up brawl that has a legitimate chance at going down as the fight of the year. The performance marked Van's second win in three weeks after he beat Bruno Gustavo Da Silva at UFC 316 on June 7. Van, a Houston native of Burmese descent, knocked Royval down in the closing seconds of the fight before the final bell rang to the loudest crowd pop of the evening. Van won by unanimous decision, 29-28 on all three judges' scorecards. Neither fighter even attempted a takedown for the duration of the three-round fight. Out of Royval's 468 strikes thrown, all but a single one counted as a significant strike attempt. Van also threw 306 significant strikes, but was far more economical with his shots landing 209-of-311 total in comparison to Royval's 216-of-458. Because Dana White designated Royval vs. Van as a flyweight title eliminator fight, Van remained by the octagon for Pantoja's victory and entered for a faceoff with the king of the division before their prospective title bout in the not-so-distant future. Payton Talbott opened the main card with an impressive statement victory over favorite Felipe Lima by unanimous decision. The general belief leading into this fight was that Talbott's takedown defense and wrestling ability were exposed in his loss to Raoni Barcelos at UFC 311 in January. However, his performance defending the takedown and maneuvering his way out of trouble on the ground was a complete renaissance compared to six months ago. Talbott stopped 12 of Lima's 15 takedown attempts, and the native of Reno, Nev., also was incredibly effective and efficient with his ground striking when Lima did manage to bring him to the canvas. In the main card's second fight, Beneil Dariush responded to a first-round knockdown with a dominant performance over the next two rounds to beat fellow 36-year-old Renato Moicano by unanimous decision. Dariush was successful on all five of his takedown attempts, in addition to outlanding Moicano 77-39 in total strikes and 56-31 in significant strikes. The win marks Dariush's first since beating Mateusz Gamrot at UFC 280 in October 2022. Dariush lot fights in June and December of 2023 and did not fight last year. -- Will Despart, Field Level Media
